About Ngaanyatjarra Health Service

The Ngaanyatjarra Council (Aboriginal Corporation) represents the interests of around 2000 Ngaanyatjarra, Pintupi and Pitjantjatjara Traditional Owners (Yarnangu) who reside in the 11 member communities of the Ngaanyatjarra Lands.

Ngaanyatjarra Health Service (NHS) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled health service providing care to indigenous people living in communities across the vast Ngaanyatjarra Lands in remote Western Australia, near the Northern Territory/South Australian borders. We are governed by an indigenous Board of Directors and are AGPAL accredited.

 

About the Opportunity

NHS has the opportunity for a Registered Nurse or Enrolled Nurse to provide services to Kungkarrangkalpa, an 18-bed Residential Aged Care facility in Wanarn community on the Ngaanyatjarra Lands. This role will be responsible for providing direct care to the consumers who reside within the Aged Care facility.

The successful candidate will be required to:

• Assist residents to meet daily living needs.
• Ensure the comfort, privacy, dignity, and preference of each resident is respected and is culturally appropriate.
• Assist and promote consumers to maintain independence, communication, and social interaction with others.
• Support consumer rights, interests, cultural and spiritual needs in a non-judgemental manner.
• Initiates & coordinates care of patients with complex health problems.
• Ensure all work and care is carried out ethically and within the framework of the Ngaanyatjarra Health Service (NHS) in line with the aged care standards.
• Respond to consumers assistance requests in an effective and timely manner.
• Encourage the development of relationships with others within the community which promotes a harmonious environment.
• Adhere to legislative requirements, NHS policies and procedures, Infection Control Guidelines and medication guidelines and protocols.
• Complete all documentation according to NHS policies and procedures.

The successful candidate will possess:

• AHPRA Registration as a Registered Nurse or Enrolled Nurse.

• Willingness and capacity to work with a multicultural environment.

• Knowledge and commitment to cultural safety in care delivery.

• Minimum of three years experience in the delivery of Aged Care Services.

• Ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary environment.

• Well-developed skills in communication, conflict resolution, negotiation and problem solving.

• Knowledge and commitment to Quality improvement and Clinical risk management.

• Commitment to WH7S and Infection Control principals.

• Ability to work in a remote area.

• Current manual drivers licence.

• WA Working with Children Check.
• Current National Police Clearance or the ability to obtain.
• Ability to travel regional, remote, and interstate on unsealed roads by 4WD or by light aircraft.

Relevant post-registration qualifications and knowledge of current Occupational Safety and Health Legislation, as well as recent remote Aged Care clinical practice, are desirable, but not compulsory.
